My Review:

‘A captivating and mind-boggling story. Prefect for Kids and Teens.’

About the Author

Although she writes under the pen name J.K. Rowling, pronounced like rolling, her name when her first Harry Potter book was published was simply Joanne Rowling. Anticipating that the target audience of young boys might not want to read a book written by a woman, her publishers demanded that she use two initials instead of her full name. As she had no middle name, she chose K as the second initial of her pen name, from her paternal grandmother Kathleen Ada Bulgen Rowling. She calls herself Jo and has said, “No one ever called me ‘Joanne’ when I was young, unless they were angry.” Following her marriage, she has sometimes used the name Joanne Murray when conducting personal business. During the Leveson Inquiry, she gave evidence under the name of Joanne Kathleen Rowling. In a 2012 interview, Rowling noted that she no longer cared that people mispronounced her name.

My Thought

J K Rowling’s books have always captured my attention since the Harry Potter movies. Once you read the story stays with you, touching your heart and mind. She has a unique way of telling her stories that brings you back for more. The more you enter the story, the more eager you get ,and you want to know what will happen next.

The Book

After reading the book ‘The Christmas Pig’, the other book that attracted me was ‘The Ickabog’. Making me think, this will be very interesting. Trust me, it is interesting. Friendship, family, love, loyalty, pride, hate, and standing up for the truth are all you can find in this book. This book will be a good choice for your kids to read.

The story

This book teaches a very important lesson: the life of a lie is short, though you tell it repeatedly to make it sound real, eventually it does come to an end.

It is said, if you lie, you need to keep lying repeatedly to support the previous lie to save yourself. That was what Lord Spittleworth did. He broke up many happy families only to save himself. I know he was wrong, but it was King Fred who was wrong also, who blindly believed in his every word. I like what Rowling showed in the end, that the good always triumphs and the bad falls. We should also teach our kids, too.

I can’t wait for my daughter to read this book, once she learns how to read. Silly me!!!

About the Book:

Once upon a time, there was a tiny kingdom called Cornucopia, as rich in happiness as it was in gold, and famous for its food. From the delicate cream cheeses of Kurdsburg to the Hopes-of-Heaven pastries of Chouxville, each was so delicious that people wept with joy as they ate them.

But even in this happy kingdom, a monster lurks. Legend tells of a fearsome creature living far to the north in the Marshlands… the Ickabog. Some say it breathes fire, spits poison, and roars through the mist as it carries off wayward sheep and children alike. Some say it’s just a myth…

And when that myth takes on a life of its own, casting a shadow over the kingdom, two children — best friends Bert and Daisy — embark on a great adventure to untangle the truth and find out where the real monster lies, bringing hope and happiness to Cornucopia once more.

Happy Reading!!!
