It’s Quora time again!!!

While browsing through my Quora questions, I came across this frequent question of “Speed Reading”.

Nowadays, I find people obsessing with speed reading, as if they are in a race. What is the average speed for reading? How many books can you read in a day, week, month or year? How can I develop the habit of reading fast? and many more.

Enjoy Reading

According to me, one should enjoy reading, no matter whether you are fast or slow. Reading should be a joyful feeling rather than a race. Some people like to read that sometimes they finish one or two books in a day. On the contrary, I’m much slower. I take my time while reading, if I don’t understand I read again. Everyone should have their own choice and style of reading, rather than following someone’s style and habit.

The Power of Speed reading

Many resources indicate that the average reading speed of most adults is around 200 to 250 words per minute, which translates to two minutes per page. College students, probably because they must practice reading, move that pace up a notch to about 300 words per minute.
Admittedly, not everyone can read fast and hit the average reading speed regardless of their age. Many factors affect how fast a person can read, such as practice, reading material, and health. However, this does not mean they can’t improve their reading pace.

Tag along as we discuss average reading speed, factors affecting reading speed and comprehension, and ways to improve reading speed.

Then the curiosity increases how you can improve your reading?

The famous character with the ability to read fast

Dr. Spencer Reid fictional character

What interested me in this topic was the famous fictional character Dr. Spencer Reid played by actor Matthew Gray Gubler in the hit series Criminal Minds.

I loved this character so much, his house was filled with books pile after pile. In any kind of situation, some books in the corner of his mind were ready to help him. Books were everything to him. I know Dr. Spencer Reid is a fictional character, but he was real to me. Seriously, I tried reading like him, but I wouldn’t. Not even a sentence. I gave up. But I still love this Dr. Ried.

So speed reading or not, I love reading books. No matter, the time I spend with every book I read, I love reading. I would also, tell my readers to just read and forget about the speed. Enjoy the story, the characters, and the moments they share; happy, sad, angry, greedy. You silently enjoy all the shades that the book has to share with you.

Happy Reading!!!
